The SMILE summer statistics camp is a unique, hands-on opportunity for talented campers to learn and/or improve their data analysis skills using statistical analysis software and real-world data. The curriculum includes an overview of descriptive statistics, basic discrete and continuous distributions, and construction of statistical intervals for the mean based on a single sample. Campers will not only learn how to use statistics to explain the relationship between an outcome and one or more predictors, but also be exposed to examples of big data. While working with examples directly from the media, campers will acquire great statistical skills to employ in group projects.
