Are you a high school student looking a majoring in a STEM field in college?
Welcome to SMILE's Engineering Career Experience, designed to give high schoolers a real look into what a field of engineering is like. Over the years, so many students get to college only to discover that the classes and jobs post graduation just aren't what was expected. Engineering Career Experience is our solution to this ever-present recurring problem.
Each week we will cover all fields, but specialize in a different field each week, including nuclear, materials, electrical, computer, mechanical and aerospace, industrial, civil, and textiles engineering. Sign up for whatever interests you most!
We will spend time touring local engineering departments and then come back to camp and do multiple specialized, hands-on labs from the field. We will be talking to faculty, undergrad and grad students, and touring research labs within the field of engineering. The goal is to get as broad of a perspective as possible in a given slice of that engineering field. We will talk to the NC State undergraduate advisor about curriculum classes and what it takes to get admitted.
At the end of the camp, campers will have gained practical skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication, as well as a better understanding of the diverse world of engineering and the unique challenges and opportunities within each field. Campers will have the tools they need to make an informed decision about which field of engineering to pursue in the future.
Program Hours 8:30am-4:30pm M-F
Drop-off is from 8:00-8:30am and pickup is from 4:30-5:00pm
We can provide early care before 8:00am and late pickup between 5:00-6:00pm for an extra fee.
