In this hands-on camp, campers will learn the scientific how and why behind cooking through a week full of making food! Not only will we learn food techniques, we will learn how different ingredients affect a recipe, how heat and freezing affects our food on a molecular level, and even about the chemical and physical changes that happen when cooking. Students will learn about the nutritional content of the foods they eat on a daily basis and understand what makes food healthy or unhealthy, down to the macronutrients.
Campers will experiment with creating new foods from scratch, including baking bread, making pasta, fermenting pickles, dehydrating fruits, and cooking vegetables and meats themselves. Campers will have a week full of food science, from the yeasts that make our food rise to the bacteria that creates yogurt. This camp is perfect for budding cooks to full fledged chefs ready to expand their craft, as we will be teaching cooking and science techniques to all skill levels.
