Become the Hero of Norse Mythology — in Minecraft™!

This is a 10-week class, 1.5-2 hours each session.

Under the giant boughs of Ygrassil, a portal to new worlds await you! Delve into the fantastical world of Elves, Dwarves, Trolls and Giants in this mythological landscape. Follow the footsteps of Thor, Loki and Freyja as they explore the Nine realms and conquer many foes.

Key experiences: off screen storytelling and discussion, in game treasure hunts, PvP games, boss battles vs. teacher, exploration, creative-mode building.

Long Description:

Step into the Nine Realms and bring the legends of Thor, Loki, and Odin to life! This 10-week hybrid class combines story discussion, mythological exploration, and immersive Minecraft™ building to put students at the center of epic adventures.

Each class begins around the table, where we read or discuss a Norse myth. Students will explore the characters’ motives, the deeper meaning of the story, and key symbols in Norse culture. We may also examine artwork or short videos to deepen understanding. Then, we head to the computer lab — where students recreate the story’s setting, reenact its events, and step into the role of the hero through hands-on building and survival play.

Over the course of the class, students will:

• Explore the World Tree and Asgard, Land of the Aesir
• Follow Thor and Loki’s adventures in Jötunheimr, Land of the Giants
• Meet Loki’s children — Fenrir, the World Serpent, and Hel
• Search for treasure in the Dwarven Realm
• Learn to hide in trees and live like an Elf
• Brave the fires of Muspelheim
• Battle through Ragnarök — the end of the cosmos!

Through a mix of storytelling, discussion, and gameplay, students will practice critical thinking (analyzing characters and themes), creative problem-solving (designing their own myth-inspired builds), and collaboration (working together in survival mode Minecraft™).

By the end of the class, students won’t just know Norse mythology — they will have lived it, built it, and battled through it as heroes in their own legendary adventure.
